Gee, Wiz?

Predictably, it’s been a rough season in the nation’s capital as many anticipated it would be, though not to the level that was initially expected going into the start of the season.

As previously mentioned, the Wizards enter the night carrying a 15-30 record, along with having a -5.1 net rating, which is good for 25th in the league, per NBA.com/stats.

Despite that low ranking, the Wizards like to play very fast and it’s been the lifeblood behind them standing 11th in offensive efficiency as they average 111 points per 100 possessions. So has been hitting 36.4 percent of their 3-point attempts, which has been helped by having one of the most efficient and high volume marksmen in the league with Davis Bertans, who’s hitting 42 percent from beyond the arc.

It’s been on the defensive end where the extent of their struggles lie as they’re dead-last in defensive efficiency at 116.1 points per 100 possessions. Wading through a difficult season has been quite the challenge for Wizards All-Star guard Bradley Beal, who, after signing a contract extension before the start of the season, recently voiced his displeasure with losing being a steady trend.

Unfortunately for Beal and the rest of the Wizards players, there will be no magic wand to wave and miraculously turn around what’s been a trying campaign and it will certainly be interesting to see how they operate at next month’s trade deadline, especially with Bertans.
