D.J. Wilson

Ah, what a lost third NBA season it has been for D.J. Wilson, especially after showing some flashes for stretches over his sophomore season.

Much to the chagrin of some Bucks fans that continue to sing Wilson’s praises after taking some noticeable steps toward a promising future in Milwaukee, the 23-year-old hasn’t factored into the Bucks’ plans all throughout the year. For Wilson, 135 of his 235 total minutes this season have come during the fourth quarter in games that have been well in hand for the Bucks or for the few opponents that have been to take them down so far.

The inescapable reality from the pseudo-purgatory that Wilson finds himself in is that the Bucks have continued to look for more proven depth forward options over the two and a half years Wilson has been in Milwaukee since being selected with the 17th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

Williams is just the latest example of that and it’s ranged from bringing back Ilyasova for a third stint in Milwaukee, acquiring Mirotic at last season’s trade deadline and bringing in the younger Lopez brother to provide more defensive size and steel and to eliminate any possibilities for Wilson to see the floor in small ball units.

Just as was the case before Williams came into the fold, Wilson will remain on the outside looking in, save for likely games where the Bucks rest their star players ahead of the postseason.
