Knocking down threes

Certainly the most obvious upgrade of Williams’ early performance with the Bucks so far, the 33-year-old could stand to improve his marksmanship, especially from beyond the arc.

A career 36.1 percent 3-point shooter, Williams has struggled to find his stroke since arriving to Milwaukee last month as he’s gone 6-for-23 from 3-point range through his nine appearances, as of this writing. When you dig deeper, the bulk of those 3-point attempts have come from both of the corner spots where Williams has gone 4-for-12 in those shot locations, per NBA.com/stats.

Hitting triples from the short corner has long been Williams’ bread and butter as his range doesn’t translate to the same effect. Case in point, Williams is shooting 27-of-87 from both above the break spots this season with both the Bucks and the Hornets, good for 31 percent.

Considering Williams’ offensive role has been pretty streamlined as he finds his footing under Budenholzer, hitting those corner shots will be critical to his 3-point shooting output. And much of those opportunities will come with plenty of daylight and Williams is connecting on 35.3 percent of his 85 wide-open 3-point attempts this season.

Logic would suggest that Williams hitting those shots will come with time and hopefully that will prove to be the case.
