Disrupting the Bucks’ rhythm

Selfishly, the NBA pressing pause on the season has a significant effect on the season Lasry’s Bucks were crafting up until this point. It’s far down the line on the list of current concerns right now, but Lasry expressed how excruciating it is to have a season like this shut down just like that, based on the circumstances:

"“I think it’s the same for everybody, to be honest with you. No matter which team you support, you’re sort of like ‘Whoa, what happened?’ And for us, it’s probably a little bit worse, just simply because we’re doing so well. But just for people, you look around and think this is supposed to be going on. That’s not it. Ultimately, you’re a little bit in shock as to how quickly everything just changed.”"

Considering all of the injuries the Bucks were dealing with before this break, Lasry believed there is a silver lining for teams trying to get back to full health over however long this stretch ends up being:

"“I think the good of it, if there is one, is that anybody who was hurt has time to heal. Any teams that were having issues, they have more time to deal with those. If you’re LeBron (James), you get more time to heal and rest. I think for Giannis, he’s got a little longer time to heal with the knee. I think there’s positives and negatives regarding the health of certain players. The negative is everybody is going to be off when you come back.”"

Rounding it all out was talking about the looming decision and supermax extension that will come to Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, regardless of what happens at the end of this Bucks season, that is when it does pick up again. And Lasry talked about whether the media buzz, both good and bad, will end up influencing whatever the reigning MVP will look to do this summer:

"“I think at the end of the day, Giannis is going to do what’s best for him. Giannis is a really talented, smart individual. I think he will do what’s best for him, for his family. Not what the media reports. So if, at end of the day, if it’s best for him to stay in Milwaukee, that’s what he’s going to do. If it’s best for him to be somewhere else, that’s what he will do. So I don’t really worry about the media reports or anything. Our job is as a team is to provide the best environment and end up being a winning team, a winning culture. If you got that, everybody, it’s not just Giannis, is going to want to stay and come to play in Milwaukee. I don’t think it’s that complicated. We all want to go to a place, to work at a company where we think it’s a great place to work. So I think most people want to go to a team that’s winning, that has the possibility of winning a championship. If you have that, then I think you’re fine.”"
