Just like a lot of us around the world, Giannis Antetokounmpo suddenly has a lot of down time on his hands. So, the reigning MVP looks to be learning guitar.

For many, that may lead to endless Netflix binges, countless books read, or even marathon gaming sessions in the days, weeks, and possibly months ahead. But it may also be an opportunity to pick up a new hobby or to learn how to do something you’ve always wanted to do.
As the Milwaukee Bucks are currently on hiatus with the NBA season suspended, the latter certainly looks to be something that the team’s talismanic superstar, Giannis Antetokounmpo, is putting into action.
In a short video shared on social media by his girlfriend, Mariah, Giannis can be seen diligently strumming his way through Deep Purple’s Smoke on the Water.
For the moment, let’s just call it a work in progress.
The song, a rock classic from the English band, has long been a staple that beginners turn to in their early stages of picking up the guitar, so Giannis is clearly on the right track.
Given Antetokounmpo’s famously relentless approach to hard work and practice, by the time NBA play does eventually resume, the reigning MVP will probably be breaking out virtuosic solos.
Who knows, the biggest threat to Giannis re-signing long-term in Milwaukee could yet prove to be the lure of the stage!
Of course, in recent days, Giannis also took the lead on setting off the spate of donations that later came from all of his teammates, and the Bucks organization itself, to ensure that Fiserv Forum workers won’t be out of pocket during this period of great uncertainty.
Antetokounmpo and his family contributed $100,000 to the arena staff.
Of course, Antetokounmpo’s qualities as a leader are indisputable among Bucks fans at this point, and he’s been setting the right example on many fronts in the last few days, as he was also quick to send out a reminder to his fans about the vital importance of hand hygiene at this time.
Following Giannis’ example is generally a good strategy, but possibly now more than ever. Stay at home when you can, look out for your family and those who are vulnerable, wash your hands, and maybe even pick up a new hobby to offer a welcome distraction too.
