Drums

The drummer is always a wildcard. They’re wired differently to the rest of the band.

They’re ready to play harder, and for longer than anyone else, and to do so while channeling a manic exuberance and energy throughout.

The auditions for this spot would be particularly hard-fought. Donte DiVincenzo certainly has a lot of the tools, and Sterling Brown undoubtedly has the intensity required.

But when it comes to leaning into his inner Animal from The Muppets, I’d bet on Thanasis Antetokounmpo being the standout choice.

With limited playing time this season, Thanasis has already had to embrace a drummer-esque role within the Bucks in terms of status and visibility, and yet has been no less focused on the task at hand when his moment to shine arrives.

Plus, Thanasis on the drums would play into a long-held music tradition: sibling bandmates. With Giannis and Thanasis sharing the stage, this band could follow on the footsteps of other legendary sibling-centric groups such as The Beach Boys, Dire Straits, Oasis, and Radiohead.

Plus, just look at the photo below. There’s a group of relatively muted reactions, and then there’s the drummer’s reaction. Thanasis was born to play the drums.
