3. Thu. Oct. 24, Milwaukee Bucks @ Houston Rockets

This was the highly-anticipated season-opener that definitely lived up to the hype. The Bucks rode a huge fourth quarter comeback to win 117-111.

There were two huge storylines going into this game; the battle of MVP’s, and Russell Westbrook‘s first game as a Rocket.

James Harden had just finished a busy summer of complaining about not winning MVP, pushing Chris Paul out of Houston, and introducing Westbrook to the team.

Giannis, on the other hand, spent his summer worrying about another goal; a championship. Although Giannis might not admit it, this game definitely meant something to him. He wanted to shut Harden up.

Giannis did just that, as he outscored Harden 30 to 19, and led Milwaukee to a win. But the thing that makes this game stand out so much is not the MVP battle, it’s the performance from Wes Matthews.

In his first game with the Bucks, taking over Malcolm Brogdon‘s starting spot, Matthews scored 14 points and played incredible defense on Harden, holding him to 2-of-13 from the field.

This was definitely a sign of things to come for both Milwaukee and Matthews, as he’s drawn all of the toughest matchups this season, spending most of his time guarding the opposing team’s best player.

Milwaukee’s ability to stick together when trailing and still give enough effort to fight back for a 16-point comeback-win on the road makes this one of the biggest standout games this season.
