Giannis Antetokounmpo: Potential first look at Zoom Freak 2 leaks online

After the incredible success of his first signature shoe, a rumored design for Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s Zoom Freak 2 has leaked online.
It may be quite some time before Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks take to the court again due to the current suspension of the season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Of course, a knock-on from that could be that there’s a real possibility that the next time the reigning MVP hits the hardwood, he could potentially be doing so wearing a new version of his signature sneakers.

Antetokounmpo’s debut sneaker, the Nike Zoom Freak 1 has been a remarkable success over the past year.
It’s become a common sight to see multiple players in every NBA game sporting Giannis’ signature design, which isn’t all that surprising given that Nike CEO Mark Parker described it back in September as “the largest initial signature launch in Nike Basketball history“.
Therefore, the next step for Giannis and Nike’s collaboration is to release the second model from the Zoom Freak line, which The Athletic’s Bill Shea had previously reported was set to drop in the second half of 2020 (subscription required).
Ross Klein, the senior creative director for the Nike Basketball Footwear division, also revealed in conversation with Shea that work on that follow-up had long been underway.
"“As we’re finishing up the prior one, we’re working toward the next one. We traditionally overlap seasons for a few months. As he’s wearing the first shoe, we’ll get responses from him on how the shoe is wearing.”"
With that in mind, news that a potential leak of a Zoom Freak 2 design had leaked online in recent days was sure to catch plenty of people’s attention.
Sole Collector rounded up some details about the potential design, while also taking a closer look at the leaked image of the rumored look.
Most notably when compared to the design of the Zoom Freak 1, if this leak does prove to be authentic, it looks like Giannis’ follow-up sneaker will move away from one of the signature design elements of his debut release.
While the Zoom Freak 1 featured a Nike swoosh placed low, and in reverse, spanning the sole and heel, this potential Zoom Freak 2 design sees the brand mark return to something of a more traditional form with Giannis’ own personal logo instead moving back to the heel.
All will be revealed in time as to whether this is in fact an authentic first look at what Giannis will be wearing on his feet in future, while of course the current situation could end up impacting production to the point where the release may yet end up delayed.

Either way, as his strong partnership with Nike continues, business is still booming for Antetokounmpo.
