Donte DiVincenzo has had a major impact with the Milwaukee Bucks this season, but his future with the team is looking even brighter.

The 2019-20 season for Donte DiVincenzo has been one of incredible growth and showing people he belongs on the NBA’s best team. Milwaukee Bucks fans have seen the exceptional growth of DiVincenzo from a bench player to a potential Sixth Man candidate.

After winning two NCAA Championships at Villanova, and winning the NCAA Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player in 2018, DiVincenzo was drafted 17th overall by the Bucks.

In the 2019-20 season, Donte DiVincenzo has frequently found himself in the Milwaukee Bucks’ lineup, and often as a playmaker whom the Bucks could trust in big moments. Put simply, DiVincenzo has been phenomenal on defense and has been extremely crafty on the offensive end.

When the Bucks lost Malcolm Brogdon last summer, fans were nervous that the team was losing a player that runs downhill and finishes tough layups. But with improvements in his finishing at the rim this season, Donte is starting to look like that guy.

Before the current season came to an abrupt halt, an argument could be made that DiVincenzo was having a better season, certainly relative to expectation, than the former Buck Brogdon. While injuries have continued to disrupt Brogdon with the Pacers, his average of 16.3 points and just under 3.9 rebounds in 30 plus minutes per game is accompanied by underwhelming shooting percentages of 43.9 from the field and 31.3 from deep.

By comparison, DiVincenzo has been effective and efficient while largely putting the injury issues he had suffered last season behind him.

Any discussion of who the future of the Bucks will most definitely include Donte DiVincenzo. Donte is already a core part of Milwaukee’s current plans, but he should be the starting shooting guard of the Bucks’ future too. Donte has the ability to play a point guard too, but more importantly, he has shown that he can play and move really well without the ball.

One of the best things Donte did last season was cut to the basketball for quick layups off circus-like passes.

It was undeniable that the Milwaukee Bucks were the NBA’s best team this season and, sure it helped that Donte is on the team. But at the same time, it is important to note that his success is even more impressive because he’s on such a team.

DiVincenzo has the ability to be a leader, and fans fully expect him to be a part of this team’s growth. It will be interesting to see if he will transition into a point guard or continue on his path to become a top tier shooting guard. Either way, the Bucks have a great player.
