The potential is front and center

Although this season saw D.J. Wilson go back to the bench primarily, when he received a proper opportunity, the forward had a few entertaining performances. Wilson had four games with 20 or more minutes played this season, and finished scoring in double digits in each of them.

One of these includes a December 2 win versus the New York Knicks, where Wilson scored a career-high 19 points in 24 minutes of action. The forward played a fantastic game as he shot 8-for-9 from the field, which included 3-for-4 from three-point territory.

At the time, it was his second consecutive game of 20 or more minutes with double-digit scoring, as he played 24 minutes versus the Charlotte Hornets on November 30th and scored 11 points. The forward went on to do it two more times this season, having turned some heads in the process, in regard to whether he should earn more minutes.

Wilson showcased that the potential is there; he just needs to be given a proper chance to showcase it. At just 23-years-old, Wilson is still reasonably young and has plenty of time to develop into a certified rotational player for the Bucks.

The Milwaukee Bucks clearly believed in Wilson when they selected him in the first round several years ago, and although he only averaged 11 points per game in his final season of college, the potential has always been there. If given more minutes whenever play resumes, Wilson’s career could change significantly for the better.

The main idea with D.J. Wilson is that the potential is there, but being on such a team loaded with talent, particularly at that position, makes it difficult to choose the young player. As he continues to develop, the minutes may increase, but only time will tell.
