Strengths
Hampton possesses natural abilities and gifts that simply can’t be taught.
Coming in at 6’5″ and 190 lbs, Hampton has the prototypical size of a combo guard. Along with that, Hampton is an incredibly dynamic athlete and it’s certainly why he excels in transition to the level that he does.
Hampton’s ability to both shift gears and breeze by defenders with an explosive first step makes him a relentless attacker of the basket, whether in the open floor or in attacking off of the catch in halfcourt situations.
And with his ambidextrous touch at or around the basket, Hampton’s finishing will be a positive asset as he develops, though it will be interesting how acclimates to the increase in physciality and rim protection in the NBA. Per Spatial Jam, a stats database dedicated to the NBL, Hampton converted 54 percent of his 63 scoring opportunities at the basket this season.
And while he’s far from a lead playmaker or major focal point in an NBA offense at this stage in his development, Hampton’s distribution skills are interesting, especially on the move. The Dallas native posted a 1.68 assist-to-turnover ratio with the Breakers this year and his passing vision at this stage is one that inspires hope.
