Milwaukee Bucks NBA Draft Prospect Watch: R.J. Hampton
Weaknesses
Many of the concerns and weaknesses currently present in Hampton’s game certainly reared their ugly head in his lone season in the NBL.
Hampton’s shooting deficiencies stand atop that list, not only for his subpar 3-point percentage (29.4 percent), but for his relatively low volume as he went 15-for-51 across all competitions. Granted, Hampton’s playing time and injuries didn’t help matters, but the point still stands.
Fortunately, Hampton’s free throw percentage (73.7 percent) indicates that he’s on the way to being a capable shooter, but there will certainly be tweaks and adjustments made in his shooting mechanics and overall foundation.
Secondly, Hampton’s defensive work and overall effort are very much a mess at this point. Trying to iron out the poor habits and technique he’s developed on the amateur level will be a necessity to tackle and won’t be solved right away once he enters the NBA.
Lastly, in order for Hampton to realize his full potential as a finisher, being able to absorb contact as well as getting to the free throw line will be a must. The former Breaker averaged 3.3 free throw attempts on a per-36 minute basis and building up his frame and gaining strength will be critical in this aspect.
