Milwaukee Bucks NBA Draft Prospect Watch: Jared Butler – Strengths
Upon first glance, what leads off the appeal of Butler’s game starts with what he can do with the ball in his hands.
The Louisiana native is an incredibly dynamic scorer off the dribble, especially when firing away from long range. The ability to create the kind of separation that Butler does with his adept ball handling skills does have the potential to really bend opposing defenses in a special way, especially with the range he can hit from and the high volume of attempts (373) he made over the last two seasons.
That certainly applies inside the arc as Butler is well suited to penetrating the paint and is very shifty when utilized in pick-and-roll situations to find cracks or gaps when surveying the floor. And while he does have some concerns in regard to translating those abilities, Butler did convert 60.6 percent of his scoring opportunities at the rim as a sophomore this year, per Hoop-Math.com.
Additionally, Butler’s shooting skills are equally dangerous off the ball and being a career 36.7 percent 3-point shooter in college certainly points to him being a nice complementary threat at the next level.
Lastly, Butler’s defensive services often shine, thanks to his high-effort level and active hands when fighting through screens on the ball or sniffing out passing lanes. Though he may have some physical concerns at the next level, the mobility and defensive toughness he possesses helps combat some of those questions.
