Milwaukee Bucks NBA Draft Prospect Watch: Jared Butler – Fit with the Bucks

Clearly, Butler’s current projections from draft experts would make him available by the time the Bucks will be on the clock during this year’s NBA Draft in October.

From that standpoint, there will certainly be more desirable prospects that may offer more athletic or skill upside from either the 19th or 20th overall pick, where the Bucks currently stand, compared to Butler’s abilities.

However, the variety of ready-made qualities and shooting capabilities that are consistently featured in Butler’s skill package do fulfill his sleeper status within a draft class that is lacking surefire projected stars.

Just as we recently noted when covering the game of Desmond Bane, the level of proficiency and poise that Butler has on and off the ball fits what the Bucks have valued through their backcourt in recent drafts. And again, the high-level shooting and range he brings would be welcome to a Bucks team that greatly values shooting and spacing in many ways.

Butler’s physical and athletic concerns are significant in how he’ll be able to penetrate and offer some defensive versatility at the next level. But the fact that Butler doesn’t shy away from those concerns is encouraging.

Being the strong shot creator and 3-point shooter that he is, Butler has the makings to be a solid instant contributor, especially for a playoff team that is looking to maintain their current contending window such as the Bucks are.

Under the possibility that the Bucks may move back in the first round to grab an additional asset, Butler may be a late first round prospect that is worth selecting to give Milwaukee a talented, versatile option within their backcourt that could use an added injection of skilled shooting.
