Milwaukee Bucks NBA Draft Prospect Watch: Cassius Stanley – Weaknesses
Stanley certainly possesses translatable role player qualities at the NBA level, but it’s the prospect of raising his game beyond that that stands as something of a question mark.
The biggest of those concerns come on the offensive end where Stanley’s natural athleticism largely outmatches his skill level, with his budding shooting ability and slashing game being the lone exceptions at this stage.
The 20-year-old is far from a shot creator and/or creative playmaker for others and his 0.55 assist-to-turnover ratio with the Blue Devils this season is quite damning in that regard. For further context, that came with Stanley logging a 21.9 usage percentage.
As far as Stanley’s attacking game is considered, being able to improve his scoring chances through contact or against physicality more frequently. Per Hoop-Math, Stanley converted 58.6 percent of his scoring opportunities at the basket this year. On the other hand, though, Stanley did make his way to the free throw line quite frequently as he registered a 38.9 free throw attempt rate.
Being able to fine-tune his skills to realize his 3-and-D role is paramount for Stanley at the next level. Anything going beyond that skill-set will only enhance how he can impact the game on a nightly basis.
