Milwaukee Bucks: Revisiting Thanasis Antetokounmpo’s 2019-20 season so far – Where Thanasis left off

When the Bucks last took to the court for a competitive game, Thanasis Antetokounmpo was in the starting lineup.

In fact, Thanasis has logged two starts in the 2019-20 season to date with both of those coming, maybe not so coincidentally, against the Denver Nuggets.

That tidbit leaves some details worth unpacking, which I’ll do shortly, but there’s no getting away from the fact that the elder of Milwaukee’s Antetokounmpo brothers has been little more than a bit-part player so far this season.

That’s no real surprise following on from the very low expectations that surrounded Thanasis following news of his signing last summer, but the truth is that Antetokounmpo has been serviceable in the limited opportunity that has come his way.

Thanasis has brought the same relentless energy that Bucks fans likely observed when checking out Giannis in international action over the years, and he has been able to channel that into strong bursts of rebounding, crowd-pleasing dunks, and even some impressive defensive moments.

With 18 appearances in total, Thanasis has generally been left to soak up garbage time minutes, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t come up with plenty of explosive moments at those times. One thing that’s undeniable is there hasn’t been a single dull moment with Thanasis on the court.
