Milwaukee Bucks: Revisiting Thanasis Antetokounmpo’s 2019-20 season so far – One big question moving forward

Realistically, the Bucks’ rotation is only going to shrink once the postseason arrives, even if the uncertain events of recent months may lead to some extended run for the team’s lesser used role players over the regular season’s final eight seeding games.

That may well give Thanasis a chance to make a last minute case for minutes, but a full-on breakthrough would seem extremely unlikely to say the least.

What that doesn’t rule out is the possibility of Thanasis being used situationally, which brings us back to his two starts against the Nuggets.

One of the more leftfield and intriguing wrinkles that Coach Bud has rolled out this season has been slotting Thanasis in at center in small ball lineups, in a move that’s so bold it seems almost guaranteed to throw off opponents.

That certainly seemed to be the case when Nikola Jokic was confronted by Thanasis in the paint, and the Greek’s combination of energy, strength, and determination allows him to hold his own in a way in which it would seem like he has no real right to.

By no means is this an option that I’d expect to even land in the first 10 pages of Milwaukee’s playbook, but Thanasis could be a surprise contributor in a break glass in case of emergency type of scenario.
