Milwaukee Bucks: Revisiting Eric Bledsoe’s 2019-20 season so far – One big question moving forward

Considering how the Bucks’ seasons have finished in the past two years, there was never going to be any shortage of question marks hanging over Eric Bledsoe heading into the restart.

In the first round against the Boston Celtics in 2017-18, and the Conference Finals against the Raptors in 2018-19, the Bucks lost by incredibly fine margins and were left to rue the fact that their starting point guard had looked a shell of the player he’d been in the regular season.

As if those concerns weren’t significant enough, Bledsoe’s preparations for this season’s restart in Orlando have been significantly hampered by concerns much greater than basketball.

Bledsoe was one of two Bucks players delayed in joining up with his teammates in Orlando having tested positive for COVID-19, although the Alabama native has described his personal experience with the virus as being largely asymptomatic.

Still, there’s no way of knowing for sure whether there will be any lingering after effects for Bledsoe, and at minimum he will be a little bit behind his teammates in getting back up to speed after having been unable to participate in any of Milwaukee’s three scrimmages.

On the flip side, if Bledsoe can use the remainder of the regular season seeding games to work on his conditioning, the lay off of the last few months could at least mean he’s much fresher mentally entering the playoffs than he’s ever been before with the Bucks.

What can be said with certainty is that if the Bucks are to achieve their ultimate goal in the next couple of months, they’ll need the best version of Bledsoe that’s ever donned a Milwaukee uniform.
