5 stats that stand out from the Milwaukee Bucks’ seeding games – 45.3 opponent 3-point attempts per game

Ah yes, discussing the pros and cons of the Bucks’ 3-point defense is a tale that’s as old as time itself.

That was certainly an early theme of the Bucks’ troubling showings in the bubble, especially as they faced a slew of teams that launch threes at will like the Rockets, Nets, Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks. And due to those matchups and more, the Bucks allowed 45.3 3-point attempts to their opponents over the seeding games, by far the highest mark of all teams in the restart, and their opponents connected on 35.4 percent of those attempts.

Over Budenholzer’s two-year reign in Milwaukee, the Bucks certainly haven’t been shy in letting their opponents rise and fire from three on a nightly basis. Opposing teams know that too as the comments made by Garrett Temple following the Brooklyn Nets’ win over the Bucks echoed that part of the scouting report.

The Bucks won’t veer away from prioritizing defending the paint and the basket and for all their ups and downs so far in Orlando, they allowed 37.8 opposing paint points per game in their eight seeding games, which ranked behind the Toronto Raptors and Memphis Grizzlies. They did that while allowing opponents a league-best 57.7 percent on shots attempted at the rim over that span.

This is who the Bucks have and continue to be. A hot shooting night from their opponent hasn’t dissuaded them from veering away from their defensive scheme for the most part under Budenholzer. And time will tell whether they adjust if and when the time comes over the course of their playoff run.
