Milwaukee Bucks: 3 changes that must be made for the playoffs – Defense

The Milwaukee Bucks finished the regular season ranked first in the league in defensive rating, and by a comfortable margin too. A huge part of that comes from them only allowing an average of 108.4 points scored against them, in spite of the relentless pace they play at.

During the restart, though, the Bucks have yet to stop any team from scoring over 108 points. In fact, opposing teams have scored an average of 118.6 points against the Bucks’ defense.

This isn’t only affecting the Bucks but other teams in the NBA bubble. The average amount of points given up by each team during the restart was 117 points per game.

The fact that the Milwaukee Bucks’ defense is giving up one point more than the average team is very concerning to see. This does not look great for a team that is used to priding themselves on being the best defensive team in the league.

Part of the problem is that they are giving up considerably more turnovers than they are creating, giving up an increased opponent field goal percentage, and are not crushing other teams in the rebounding category enough to make a difference.

Overall, the Bucks need to do a better job of clamping down on their defense in order to win higher level, ultra-competitive games in the NBA playoffs.
