Milwaukee Bucks: 3 biggest needs to address this offseason
3 biggest needs the Milwaukee Bucks need to address this offseason – Versatile frontcourt floor spacer
With Marvin Williams having called it a career following the end to the Bucks’ season, minutes have just opened up in the Bucks’ rotation and specifically behind Antetokounmpo at the 4.
Williams supplanted fellow veteran forward Ersan Ilyasova upon his arrival back in Feburary and his size, shooting and frontcourt versatility led to him seeing the seventh-highest amount of minutes in the Bucks’ playoff run this year.
With the 15-year veteran hanging it up and the Bucks left with the decision to guarantee the $7 million that Ilyasova is owed for next season, all that leaves is D.J. Wilson backing up Antetokounmpo in the final year of his rookie deal. Given that the Bucks have repeatedly looked to upgrade on Wilson since selecting him in the draft more than three years ago, there’s no question the front office will do the same this offseason.
Finding a player capable of spacing the floor and playing multiple positions and/or roles at the 4 and 5 is not an easy proposition by any means, especially when Milwaukee has their frontcourt sorted at the top of depth chart between Antetokounmpo and Lopez. In their respective stints, both Ilyasova and Williams proved to be largely serviceable.
Now the Bucks will have to turn toward free agency in order to find someone capable of offering up the same attributes and/or skill set to bring to the floor when spelling Antetokounmpo. And with resources very limited and the forward free agent market very top-heavy, that search won’t be an easy one to pull off.
That only speaks to the Bucks’ offseason in general. With winning and winning big the only operative going into the 2020-21 season, the Bucks have quite the minefield to navigate around and execute nothing less than a flawless offseason.
