According to a report from KTSP in Minneapolis, the Milwaukee Bucks have shown “solid interest” in Stanford freshman guard Tyrell Terry.

The rumor mill keeps on churning around the Milwaukee Bucks heading into an NBA Draft unlike any other.

Once again, a steel guard of secrecy surrounds the Bucks’ decision-making and motives heading into this year’s draft, which takes place on November 18, as general manager Jon Horst has instituted in recent draft processes.

For those reasons, the Bucks have attempted to plug any and all leaks that come from their end and point to which prospects they have an interest in or have even interviewed over the process.

Nonetheless, the Bucks have already been linked to a couple of draft prospects throughout this year’s process and the latest centers around an intriguing freshman guard prospect, Tyrell Terry.

Per a tweet from Darren Wolfson of KTSP based in Minneapolis, the Bucks are among the many teams who have shown solid interest in the Stanford product.

Wolfson has been a reliable source of draft and free agency info over the years and the fact that he is based in Minneapolis where Terry is from shouldn’t be lost on anyone.

ESPN currently ranks Terry 42nd on their top-100 board of best available prospects in this draft while The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie ($$) currently has Terry 27th on his most recent Big Board.

It’s very easy to see why the Bucks would show interest in a player that possesses the kind of skill set that Terry brings to the court, even at 19 years old. The former Cardinal is coming off a one-and-done campaign in which he averaged 14.6 points on .441/.408/.891 shooting splits, 4.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.4 steals across his 31 appearances on the year.

While Terry’s mix of ball handling and high-level shooting both on and off the ball is certainly nothing to question, the concerns surrounding the Minneapolis native revolved around his physical attributes. As we can clearly see, Terry going to great lengths to bulk up and improve upon his frame were and are key things for him to enhance ahead of reaching the next level.

There was some speculation as to whether Terry would go through with declaring for this year’s NBA Draft with uncertainty surrounding his draft stock, but his decision to stick through with the process may pay off with a first round selection and a fully guaranteed contract. HoopsHype’s Bryan Kalbrosky relayed back in June that Terry had broken a record for a basketball IQ test administered by several front offices around the league.

From a Bucks perspective, Terry may be one of the few draft prospects who they are holding out for in this draft, given the questions regarding whether they will ultimately hold on to their draft pick. As I wrote back when previewing Terry’s game, that revolves around the simple fact that Terry would do wonders within the Bucks’ system based on his lethal 3-point marksmanship alone:

"“For a Bucks team that has fallen in love with the long ball over the last couple of seasons, shooting and spacing the floor is among the prerequisites of all newcomers and/or core players in Milwaukee. But bringing up their total 3-point proficiency is a crucial hurdle for the Bucks to tackle, given how everything is designed through superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.Adding Terry through the draft doesn’t change that by itself, of course. But the 19-year-old being able to be a threat both on and off the ball and hitting such a high rate of threes on an incredible volume of attempts is the kind of thing that can really raise the Bucks’ offensive firepower even more than where it stands today.”"

Of course, that is far from a certainty at this stage in this draft process and the Bucks clearly have a lot on their plate in light of their highly disappointing end to their 2019-20 season. Nevertheless, it’s no surprise that Terry has caught the Bucks’ attention for everything stated above.
