Milwaukee Bucks: Buy or sell on Pat Connaughton in free agency – The verdict
Overall, Pat Connaughton’s case to stay with the Milwaukee Bucks is a mixed bag. For a Milwaukee team that needs to find complementary pieces next to Giannis Antetokounmpo, Pat might be the odd man out.
With Connaughton set to hit free agency, potentially alongside the trio of Wesley Matthews, Kyle Korver, and Sterling Brown, the Bucks might have some decisions to make at the shooting guard position. Despite Connaughton’s loyalty and fan-favorite status, his offensive arsenal is not exactly the archetype that fits Milwaukee’s needs compared to that of Matthews or Korver.
Another option is scouring the free-agent market for a fresh face to bring in. While this upcoming free-agent class is not the most star-studded, the Bucks could likely find an upgrade at the position despite their limited flexibility spending wise. If the team could land someone along the lines of Justin Holiday or E’Twaun Moore, that would be a much more ideal fit given their floor spacing capabilities.
At the same time, it likely would not surprise many if the Bucks did indeed re-sign Connaughton. His desire to remain with the franchise on a team-friendly deal and contributions over the past two seasons could be persuasive, given the organization’s scarce resources. Still, as this is a buy or sell, the Bucks could certainly sell in order to search for a better-suited fit offensively.
It is a murky situation, and only time will tell how the Milwaukee Bucks feel about Pat Connaughton with a new contract on the line.
