Milwaukee Bucks 2020 NBA Draft: Isaiah Joe’s prolific 3-point shooting should draw interest
Milwaukee Bucks 2020 NBA Draft: Examining Isaiah Joe’s potential fit with the Bucks
It doesn’t take much thought as to why someone of Joe’s capabilities and 3-point firepower could be of interest to the Bucks in this year’s draft.
The level and volume at which Joe gets off 3-point looks and can hit from well behind the NBA 3-point line alone fits the Bucks’ ethos of letting it fly under head coach Mike Budenholzer. Furthermore, the system the Bucks have built with superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo at the center of it all will ease the burden in which Joe had to create offense with the ball in his hands on the college level.
That’s not an indictment on Joe’s pull-up shooting ability, but rather that the Bucks having focal points such as Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton would free up Joe to be able to take advantage of the space the Bucks’ main creators can generate.
With the dynamic and versatile ways that Joe projects to be a lethal shooter at the next level, getting to the point where he’s a highly efficient marksman is vital to his NBA prospects. In many ways, it mirrors the challenges the Bucks have in improving upon their 3-point efficiency and how they’ll go about addressing that this offseason.
But the concept of how Joe can be utilized within the framework of the Bucks’ system would bring their 3-point firepower up to another level that goes beyond just creating spot up opportunities from that level of the floor. The threat that he provides on the floor both on and off the ball is something the Bucks will always desire, especially around the current core they have.
Whether Joe can be a multi-faceted contributor is the big question as it relates to his NBA prospect. As we dove into before, Joe does have a foundation of ancillary skills and qualities and can hold his own on the defensive end. But like any role playing prospect such as Joe, physical improvements have to be made in order to further bolster his standing on that side of the ball specifically.
Potentially selecting Joe doesn’t fix all of the Bucks’ problems that need to be address this offseason, but with their need for more shooting, he certainly offers that up and then some. Time will only tell if the Bucks have any interest in Joe and whether that parlays into him being selected with the 24th overall pick next month.
