Milwaukee Bucks Mock Draft Roundup: Who does The Athletic have the Bucks taking?

With the 24th overall pick, Sam Vecenie of The Athletic ($$) has the Bucks selecting French point guard Theo Maledon out of ASVEL.

Vecenie goes on to note that given the fit and liabilities that come with pairing a non-shooter like Eric Bledsoe next to superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Bucks will be in the market to address their guard situation, whether via trade or the draft. He also links the 19-year-old to the San Antonio Spurs, who stand 11th overall, given his ties to Spurs legend Tony Parker.

While Maledon is far from an explosive or athletic figure, he brings a level of size, skill and stability while boasting an experience of having played big minutes in the EuroLeague with ASVEL. The mix of ball handling and outside shooting opens up the versatility with how he can play on and off the ball, a natural fit for the Bucks’ system and foundation led by Antetokounmpo.

Unlike Bolmaro, Maledon is expected to come over and enter the NBA wherever he lands in next month’s draft. That could be appealing in that it will give an NBA team the opportunity to immediately develop and groom his game stateside.
