Milwaukee Bucks Mock Draft Roundup: One month out from 2020 NBA Draft
Milwaukee Bucks Mock Draft Roundup: Who does Bleacher Report have the Bucks taking?
With the 24th overall pick, Jonathan Wassermann of Bleacher Report has the Bucks selecting R.J. Hampton by way of the New Zealand Breakers.
As Wassermann went on to note, Hampton possesses NBA-level talent and tools, but there are some major holes he still has to refine at this stage in his development:
"“Hampton’s explosiveness and combo-guard versatility remain attractive for a 6’5″, 19-year-old. Aside from his signature athleticism, he delivered flashes of shot-making and playmaking, though some scouts worry about his lack of a bankable core skill.”"
Having eschewed the traditional one-and-done path, Hampton made waves by taking his talents down under and playing for the Breakers as part of the ‘Next Stars’ program in the NBL. But the middling success that Hampton experienced down under brought an early end to that venture and has cast more questions about how he’ll stand up against NBA-level competition.
It’s clear that Hampton has the tools and athleticism befitting of a lottery pick, but the major question marks revolving around his shooting abilities and defensive potential have created the doubts against him right now. Whether that will lead to a slide on draft night like Wassermann portends here remains to be seen.
