Milwaukee Bucks: To buy or sell on Robin Lopez in free agency – What to sell

As good as he played in the regular season, Robin Lopez became obsolete for the Milwaukee Bucks the second the postseason rolled around. Out of Milwaukee’s 10 games, the big man made just three appearances for a grand total of 21 total playoff minutes.

Handing out a paycheck worth $5 million to a player that was hardly playable in the postseason is not ideal, given the team’s win-now status heading into next season.

Lopez falling out of the rotation was due to the team’s reliance on small-ball in matchups against the Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat. The small-ball experiment proved to be hit or miss, opening up new opportunities on offense while making the Bucks vulnerable on defense. Still, it knocked Robin out of the rotation almost entirely.

If playing Giannis Antetokounmpo at center or rolling with small lineups, in general, is something that the Bucks intend to do more of next season, Robin once again becomes the odd man out. That is all just speculation, however, as the small lineups were not Milwaukee’s forte, to say the least.

The Bucks will not be transitioning into full-on small-ball mode anytime soon, so it might be justifiable to say that the good undoubtedly outweighs the bad when it comes to Robin Lopez.
