Milwaukee Bucks: To buy or sell on Ersan Ilyasova’s future – The verdict
The odds of the Milwaukee Bucks guaranteeing Ersan Ilyasova’s $7 million salary for next season with the intent to keep him on the roster are slim to none. Given his decreasing role as the season progressed, it would make sense to cut ties with the big man and find a suitable, cheaper replacement elsewhere as they did when they brought on Marvin Williams.
If the Bucks do intend to guarantee Ersan’s final year of his deal, he will likely not play it out in Milwaukee. That $7 million owed to the veteran would be a crucial component in any deal if Milwaukee plans on swinging for any big-name trades, which at the moment, appears very much on the table.
All in all, after nine seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, it would be hard to imagine that the 33-year-old gets to suit up for another.
He is not the Ersan Ilyasova of old, and it appears that the Bucks realized that as he found himself spectating from the sidelines more often than not towards the end of the season. While the team might guarantee him the final year of his deal, it would hard to imagine that it comes in a Bucks uniform.
If on the chance they don’t guarantee Ilyasova’s salary and potentially look to bring him back on a different, cheaper deal, just as they did with George Hill last offseason, that could be a possibility. But time will tell on that front.
