Milwaukee Bucks: The 3 biggest hurdles in pursuing Bogdan Bogdanovic – Limited to sign-and-trades

Let’s get the biggest hurdle out of the way as we dig into the biggest obstacles in the Bucks being able to pursue Bogdan Bogdanovic.

A restricted free agent this winter, Bogdanovic has the ability to sign offer sheets with the 29 other NBA teams or end all speculation and reach an extension with the Kings. Of course, in order to lure the 28-year-old away from Sacramento, a team has to have some level of cap space available to them to make such a move.

That’s something the Bucks won’t have at their disposal as the $114 million they currently have committed on their books for next season was already up against the projected cap line pre-coronavirus pandemic. And that number can go higher, depending on the decisions Robin Lopez and Wesley Matthews make on their player options, respectively, as well as whether the Bucks guarantee Ersan Ilyasova’s $7 million salary for next year.

That leaves the Bucks with only one avenue to viable chase Bogdanovic as they’ll be forced to go through the sign-and-trade route to potentially acquire his services. As far as what assets or players the Kings could want from the Bucks, it’s not a particularly long list, especially of those that the Bucks deem expendable in any type of trade.

That isn’t to say that any explorations for a Bogdanovic sign-and-trade deal between the Bucks and the Kings will be a non-starter. But the limited avenue as well as projecting what would interest Sacramento in a potential deal makes it that much harder to see such a move come to fruition.
