Milwaukee Bucks: To buy or sell on Sterling Brown in free agency – The verdict
After three seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, it would be hard to envision that Sterling Brown returns for another. This team is constructed to win now, and head coach Mike Budenholzer justifiably feels more comfortable with savvy veterans like Korver or Matthews getting minutes at the position than Brown.
Along with that, Brown could also have a handful of teams targeting him on the free agent market, regardless of what Milwaukee thinks. During this past season’s trade deadline, ESPN’s Zach Lowe reported that a plethora of teams were showing interest in the 25-year-old:
"“On a smaller scale, sources say a lot of teams have asked about Sterling Brown — a free agent this summer.”"
The interest in Brown from opposing teams makes sense. He is still young, an upstanding defender, a capable 3-point shooter, and someone who could develop into a decent role player down the line with the proper opportunity. With Milwaukee’s win-now mindset reaching crucial levels heading into the 2020-21 NBA season, Brown being buried in the team’s wing-depth for another season is likely an avenue he would like to avoid.
If more playing time and stability are things that Brown will seek this offseason, it likely will not take long for him to find a new home.
Milwaukee holds that final say, of course, as they can match any offer extended towards the restricted free agent, but it would make sense if Brown has already played his last game in Milwaukee.
