Milwaukee Bucks: 3 factors to consider in a potential Victor Oladipo trade – Oladipo’s extension eligibility
Perhaps the biggest factor to consider with anything regarding Oladipo, whether in Indiana or elsewhere, is the ability that he can sign an extension this offseason.
In fact, the Pacers had discussed an extension with the seven-year guard before the start of the 2019-20 season and his return from injury. Per Ian Begley of SNY:
"“Per SNY sources, at one point in the extension talk between the club and Oladipo, the idea of a four-year extension for around $80 million was broached. Discussions about an extension didn’t progress much from there, sources said.”"
The Pacers still have the ability to reignite talks for an extension with the former Hoosier, but that’s also provided that they meet his wishes for a rich deal and if he sees the Pacers being a championship-caliber team long-term. It should come as no surprise that Oladipo wishes to garner a max deal for his next contract, just as Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report reported earlier this month.
Still, it’s a no-brainer that the Bucks would investigate into Oladipo’s availability, especially when considering that specific advantage. On the flip side, committing any kind of long-term money to someone who has the injury red flags that Oladipo carries and has struggled to reclaim his previous peak is the precise dilemma the Pacers are faced with at the moment.
Who knows whether the Pacers and Oladipo will ultimately part ways this offseason or even if the Bucks have what it takes to get a deal done, but it’s something still worth monitoring all the same.
