Milwaukee Bucks: 3 possible trade targets from Southeast Division – Davis Bertans, Washington Wizards

After suffering a series of injuries over his career, Davis Bertans opted out of the NBA restart to ensure that he will be healthy heading into free agency. As the sharpshooting big man ponders his next destination, the Bucks should make a run at him.

Under normal circumstances, Bertans would be far out of Milwaukee’s price range after putting together a career year with the Washington Wizards. However, NBC Sports Washington’s Chase Hughes reported several teams with and without cap space will look to acquire Bertans through sign-and-trade this offseason.

Hughes did not specify which teams were in the mix but did note that two organizations from the Eastern Conference and one Western were involved. Whether the Bucks are one of those teams or not remains to be seen, but Bertans would be a desirable target.

The 27-year-old had a breakout year in Washington, averaging 15.4 points on .434/.424/.852 shooting splits, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. Standing at a towering 6’10”, Bertans’ shooting capabilities at the power forward position fit the bill for what Milwaukee needs this offseason.

With Marvin Williams retiring and Ersan Ilyasova’s future uncertain, Bertans would be an immediate upgrade over either backing up Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Latvian international’s 42.4 percent connection rate from deep on an astounding 8.7 attempts per game would fit snugly in Milwaukee’s “let it fly” offense, providing some much-needed floor spacing.

Out of the teams making a run at Davis Bertans, the Milwaukee Bucks should make a strong push for the sharpshooting Latvian to bolster their bench.
