Milwaukee Bucks: Comparing assets for Chris Paul trade to other teams – Philadelphia 76ers
The Philadelphia 76ers are in the market for a point guard this offseason, and Chris Paul is sure to be on their radar. However, they find themselves closer to the Bucks than the Suns when it comes to packaging a deal for Paul.
That is because they have to shed one of their massive contracts in the deal, having to choose between the three years and $81 million on Al Horford’s deal or the four years and $147 million remaining on Tobias Harris’ max contract. Philadelphia would undoubtedly have to sweeten the deal with a draft pick and a young player, both of which are possible.
The 76ers own the 21st overall pick in this year’s draft, and either Matisse Thybulle or Shake Milton on their team-friendly deals could be entertaining young players for OKC. Thybulle showed significant two-way potential throughout his rookie season and could fit the Thunder’s rebuilding timeline at 23-years-old.
Still, the most prominent issue is trying to absorb the monstrous contracts of Horford and Harris. Those numbers are stomach-churning, and the long-term security on such deals is likely not of interest to the Thunder. Philadelphia’s All-Star duo of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid is clearly off the table, putting the 76ers in a tough spot.
The Chris Paul trade rumors are not going away anytime soon, but at the moment, it appears that the Suns have the best assets in a potential deal.
