Analyzing Bryn Forbes’ NBA career and stint with San Antonio Spurs

After a turbulent four years between both Cleveland State and Michigan State, Bryn Forbes went undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft. He soon received the chance to play for the San Antonio Spurs Summer League team and soon earned an official roster spot with the team going into the 2016-17 season

Forbes played just 7.9 minutes per game across 36 contests with the Spurs during his rookie campaign, spending a majority of the year down with San Antonio’s then D-League affiliate, the Austin Spurs. However, utilizing his prolific 3-point shooting, Forbes carved out a role for himself for the Spurs for the next three seasons. In that span, the guard averaged 9.9 points on a .434/.404/.800 slash line, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists across 24.0 minutes per game.

In his time with the Spurs, Forbes quickly became a favorite to long-time head coach Gregg Popovich, who clamored for the guard on multiple occasions, per Jeff Garcia of Spurs Zone:

"“He’s off the charts already,” said head coach Gregg Popovich following the recent Pacers game. “He’s come such a long way… “We’re running plays for him,” said Popovich. “We ran a couple plays down the stretch for him for a couple of threes, and he didn’t hesitate. He just knocked them down… I’m not sure how much more confident he can be. He knows he belongs.”"

After spending the last four seasons under Popovich, Forbes will be playing under Mike Budenholzer, a disciple off of the Popovich coaching tree. But where does Bryn Forbes fit in with the new-look Milwaukee Bucks?
