The Milwaukee Bucks’ Bogdan Bogdanovic fiasco

Now it wouldn’t be a true Bucks offseason if there wasn’t a move that could alter their chances to win it all this season. Last offseason, it was the decision to move on from Malcolm Brogdon. This time around, it was the Bogdan Bogdanovic saga.

As the Bucks swung for the fences to acquire Holiday in a blockbuster deal, they had another move up their sleeves by pursuing a sign-and-trade deal for then-Sacramento Kings restricted free agent Bogdan Bogdanovic. It quickly went from pursuit to a done deal in an instant, adding more fanfare to the start of the Bucks’ offseason.

The reported move, though, came about prematurely, thus creating a head-spinning saga that cast quite the headache over such a pivotal offseason for the franchise. As the story goes, that then led to Bogdanovic and his camp claiming there was no deal to begin with and led to a tampering investigation, which ultimately led to the Bucks being stripped of their 2022 second round pick.

Alas, a dream starting lineup was lost as the Bucks pivoted to shore up their depth elsewhere in free agency and Bogdanovic eventually signed a four-year, $72 million deal with the Atlanta Hawks that wasn’t matched by the Kings.

With all of this unfolding while Antetokounmpo weighed his decision and future in Milwaukee, things were surely made more tense as we plunged further into the Bucks’ offseason. How losing out on Bogdanovic will affect the Bucks’ ability to play for a championship, well, that’s still to be determined with the 2020-21 season having gotten underway more than a week ago.
