Milwaukee Bucks: Five realistic trade targets for team to pursue
By Dalton Sell
Third realistic trade target for the Milwaukee Bucks — P.J. Tucker, Houston Rockets
Reportedly in the market for a defensive specialist, the Bucks’ rumored interest in swingman P.J. Tucker is certainly justifiable.
The 35-year-old has earned a reputation as one of the grittiest defenders in the association by being able to tackle the tough assignments on that side of the ball. With the Houston Rockets seemingly more willing to trade the forward rather than hand him a lucrative extension before he hits free agency this offseason, a handful of contending teams are trying to get their hands on him before the deadline.
A robust defender of Tucker’s stature could help shore up any team’s defensive efforts, and the Bucks could use a player of his caliber. Milwaukee’s defense has surprisingly been one of their weaker points this season, and a player like Tucker could help give them a much-needed boost.
Throwing the forward in lineups alongside the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jrue Holiday would be burdensome for opposing offenses, particularly in a playoff setting. Keeping him away from other contending teams within the Eastern Conference like the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers for that same reason would also be ideal.
However, much like Bjelica, the predicament that comes with trading for Tucker is finding a way to take on his salary. Making just under $8 million this year, the Bucks would have to pull some strings to get a deal done, which might include parting with some key pieces to the roster.
Nevertheless, P.J. Tucker is a feasible trade option for the team if they are looking to bring in help defensively.
