The Milwaukee Bucks will face a former trade target in Chris Paul in NBA Finals vs. the Phoenix Suns

Long before the Bucks reached the NBA Finals this year, they were looking to upgrade the point guard position in the offseason.

With Giannis yet to sign the lucrative supermax extension, the front office was doing their due diligence all around the league to improve this roster. There were many compelling candidates reportedly in the mix, but two players that seemed to be jockeying for position atop the team’s wishlist were Jrue Holiday and Chris Paul. Both were the top guard reportedly available for trade, and it seemed clear that the Bucks would make a run at one of the two.

The Bucks were immediately linked to Paul in trade rumors after their 2019-20 season ended in the NBA Bubble. A pairing between Paul and the Bucks seemed like a solid fit, but the organization ultimately elected to go in a different direction and traded the lion’s share of their assets for Holiday. Paul would eventually get traded to the Suns, and as fate would have it, the two teams are set to collide on the biggest stage possible in the Finals.

With the two playing the same position, there will be plenty of one-on-one action between the two on full display. Holiday is known for his robust defensive presence, while Paul is among the craftiest point guards to ever lace them up, meaning this matchup will be the ultimate clash between two of the best at their individual crafts. Storylines will come to light about these two with every move that they make against one another, given these previous rumors, and it will be interesting to see how things unfold.
