Milwaukee Bucks’ size and length hasn’t enough against Phoenix’s shooters

Heading into the series, Milwaukee was given an advantage in the size of their team. With players such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bobby Portis, and Brook Lopez, the Bucks would have an advantage with the size of their big men.

However, the first two games of the Finals have shown that Milwaukee’s size is just enough to keep up with Phoenix’s deep threats. Devin Booker, Chris Paul and Mikal Bridges have been torching Milwaukee from beyond the arc and show no signs of slowing down.

Due to their size not being beneficial for Milwaukee, the Bucks have begun to move Giannis to the 5 to go at more of a small-ball approach. While this has shown success, keeping Giannis in that position is not the most beneficial to the team and Milwaukee finds itself in a tough spot as a result.

Using a larger lineup leads to more three-point makes while using a small-ball lineup leads to Giannis getting fatigued much easier. The weakness here goes both ways as the Bucks attempt to balance their use of Giannis at the 5 and using their bigger lineup without sacrificing too much scoring output from deep.

All in all, the size advantage has not led to much success for Milwaukee. As they move forward, balancing their lineups should be a priority without risking too much wear and tear on an already hobbled Giannis.

As the NBA Finals head back to Milwaukee, the Bucks have a good chance to even the series. Milwaukee is 7-1 at home during the postseason and they will be given two days rest before Game 3 on Sunday night. However, if the supporting cast and defense on the perimeter do not improve, the Bucks could find themselves in a dangerous spot in their quest to bring a championship back to Milwaukee.
