Goal No. 3 – Bobby Portis should have a genuine case to win Sixth Man of the Year with the Milwaukee Bucks
Undoubtedly the loftiest goal of them all, Portis should build a legitimate case to earn the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year honors with the Bucks in 2021-22.
The big man received some votes last season, but it always seemed like a long shot for him to earn the award. His numbers were solid as he averaged 11.4 points on .523/.471/.740 shooting splits, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. While they were not the outright gaudiest numbers in comparison to the other candidates, there is no denying that Portis had a sizeable impact off the bench for the eventual champions.
He will look to keep that consistent heading into his second year with the team, where he could make a case to take home the prestigious honors. To do so, he will not have to do much different than what he did in his first season with the team. If Portis can score the basketball at a high level while crashing the class with determination while bringing some intensity to the floor, he will find himself in the conversation once again. Bumping up his scoring numbers a few ticks would not hurt his chances whatsoever, but he is poised to make a run regardless.
Portis added the ultimate piece of hardware to his résumé with the championship, but perhaps he could bring home another trophy with Sixth Man of the Year. Adding that honor to his growing list of accomplishments would undeniably be an incredible honor for the “People’s Champ.”
The 26-year-old seems destined for big things in his second season with the Bucks, and as they look to defend their title, he could look to hit on these three goals along the way.
