Milwaukee Bucks: 3 options worth considering for 2021-22 starting unit
By Dalton Sell
Option 3 for Milwaukee Bucks’ 2021-22 starting 5 – Holiday, Allen, Middleton, Antetokounmpo, Lopez
One of the more interesting starting fives that the Bucks could experiment with next season could involve one of their newest additions.
That combination would involve Grayson Allen, the shooting guard that the team acquired from the Memphis Grizzlies earlier this month. Allen is coming off a career year with the Grizzlies where he averaged 10.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game, all of which were new career bests for the third-year guard. Being traded to a Milwaukee team with so much uncertainty at the shooting guard position, Allen could be destined for a bigger role right away for the Bucks.
If DiVincenzo is not ready by the start of the season, Allen will almost certainly be the starter at the two-guard spot. However, even if DiVincenzo is healthy, some would argue that Allen should be the starter regardless. The 25-year-old has a smooth outside shot and can play tenacious defense, although he is known as being an agitator more than anything. Although that reputation has gotten him into some trouble in the past, his presence would bring intensity to the lineup.
He would be a seamless fit next to Antetokounmpo and Middleton while forming one of the more pesky backcourts in the league alongside Holiday. There are undeniably many positives when it comes to analyzing Allen’s fit in the starting five, but only time will tell if Budenholer will give the newcomer a look when the new season begins.
With many talented pieces on their roster, the Bucks have no shortage of options when rolling out their starting five, and it will be interesting to see which they ultimately choose.
