Milwaukee Bucks: 3 bold goals for Grayson Allen in 2021-22
By Dalton Sell
Goal No. 2 – Grayson Allen should aim to shoot above 40 percent from deep on five attempts with the Milwaukee Bucks
The Bucks are always looking to add more outside shooting, which is yet another reason why their trade for Allen was a solid move. Shooting 38.1 percent from behind the arc on 4.1 attempts per game throughout his first three years in the league, Allen has been a stellar outside shooter.
Specifically looking at his 2020-21 season with the Grizzlies, Allen had the most productive year of his career from the outside by shooting 107-of-274 (39.1 percent) from deep. Taking a closer look, according to NBA.com/stats, most of Allen’s production came from catch-and-shoot triples, where he shot 81-of-203 (39.9 percent) for the year, in contrast to pull-ups, where he would go 24-of-67 (35.8 percent).
Allen’s productivity off catch-and-shoot opportunities will help him fit in seamlessly with the Bucks. Giving Giannis Antetokounmpo another reliable shooter from the outside will always bode well for the team, particularly with Bryn Forbes leaving in free agency. Forbes was one of the team’s most reliable shooters last season, and Allen will be a player looking to replace his role in the rotation next season. While Allen is not in the same breath of a shooter as Forbes, his ability to thrive off the catch-and-shoot will make him a great piece.
Entering year one with the Bucks, Allen should aim to shoot 40 percent from the outside while heaving at least five attempts per game. While he could see more attempts on average, especially if he finds himself in the starting unit, five per game seems like a reasonable starting point. His perimeter shooting will be crucial for this team, and chasing this goal would be worthwhile.
