Milwaukee Bucks: Analyzing the intriguing 2021-22 center rotation
By Jacob Maier
Sandro Mamukelashvili will likely sit back and learn with the Milwaukee Bucks entering his rookie season
The Bucks selected Sandro Mamukelashvili with the 54th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, a move that compelled fans from the beginning.
Mamukelashvili’s highlight reel from his time spent at Seton Hall was certainly an interesting one as it was full of impressive passing and scoring plays on full display. The big man has the potential to be a special type of player in this league due to his interesting skill set for a player of his size, but this year will likely be about sitting back and developing with the team. In a rotation with a savvy veteran like Lopez and a determined player like Portis, there is plenty that Mamukelashvili could learn from his new teammates.
Currently on a two-way contract, Mamukelashvili will likely not see much time with the Bucks at the highest level, but he could end up playing with the Wisconsin Herd, the team’s G-League affiliate. That would give him the proper experience needed at a level and give the Bucks a better understanding of who exactly they have in Mamukelashvili. He showed potential in the 2021 NBA Summer League with the Bucks, but time will tell how it translates over into the season.
The roster is near completion, and the center rotation brings plenty of size and scoring ability. In Milwaukee’s chase to defend the title, their centers will play a big role once again.
