Goal No. 2 — George Hill should aim to notch three assists per game with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021-22

As Milwaukee’s new backup point guard, Hill will be expected to take on his share of ball-handling duties when called upon. Instead of consistently having to rely on Antetokounmpo, Middleton, and Holiday to orchestrate the offense at all times, Hill will give the Bucks a reliable floor general that can alleviate some of that pressure.

While he has never been categorized as an elite playmaker or facilitator at the position, the guard is serviceable enough. In 2019-20, Hill’s first full season with the Bucks, he did have a solid year as a facilitator by averaging 3.1 assists per game. It is certainly not the flashiest number, but for a team that was stacked with talented ball-handlers, Hill provided a big boost off the bench in that department. The Bucks are hoping he can replicate that same production this time around.

If his previous stint with the Bucks is any indication, Hill will spend most of his time spelling Holiday and playing with Antetokounmpo and Middleton. According to NBA.com/stats, Hill threw his most passes to Antetokounmpo during the 2019-20 season with 402, with Middleton close behind at 355. The next closest Buck was Pat Connaughton with 195. If history repeats itself and Hill spends significant time with Antetokounmpo and Middleton, he should get plenty of chances to distribute the basketball and rack up assists. They trust him to run the floor, and he will be given that opportunity once again.

Despite sharing the basketball with Milwaukee’s leading trio, tallying three assists on average seems like a reliable goal for Hill. Given his savviness as an established point guard in this game, he will give the Bucks a quality guard with over 10 years of experience. Of course, the fellow Bucks will have to make good off Hill’s passes to help him achieve this mark, but it is an attainable one.
