Milwaukee Bucks: Wesley Matthews remains unsigned in 2021 NBA Free Agency

After the controversial Malcolm Brogdon sign-and-trade during the 2019 offseason, the Bucks brought in a veteran in Wesley Matthews to try and fill the void.

Matthews started at shooting guard for the Bucks throughout the 2019-20 season, and he quickly carved out a role for himself. Known as the prototypical 3-and-D wing, Matthews gave Milwaukee some great shooting while playing robust defense on a nightly basis. He was a seamless fit in the lineup but opted to leave the team after the season to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers. The guard never quite found his footing with the team, having struggled to get significant playing time as his 19.4 minutes per game marked the fewest in his career.

Despite his down year with the Lakers, Matthews is still someone that could help a contending team with his 3-and-D prowess. A career 37.9 percent 3-point shooter, the veteran could help space the floor for teams needing a boost on the perimeter. While his defense is not what it used to be, the 34-year-old is still solid on that side of the basketball. Contending teams that are on a budget should certainly look into signing Matthews to bolster their wing depth and bring aboard an experienced veteran.
