The updated grade for the Milwaukee Bucks’ deal for Bryn Forbes
Looking back, it would be hard to try and find much criticism for Horst and the Bucks for making this move. Sure, Forbes had his defensive limitations all year and would become a non-factor in the final three rounds of the postseason, but everything up until that point was great.
He had a career year shooting the basketball on a deal that was incredibly affordable for the Bucks to have on the payroll. In a season where the team ended their 50-year title drought, there is not much more that one could have asked from Forbes in his role. He was never a star player – aside from maybe in that Miami series where he outscored Jimmy Butler – but he came in every night and played his role off the bench to perfection.
Hindsight is always 20-20, but that is what a regrade is for. Giving the initial deal a B- was fair due to the skepticism around how the guard might hold up with such a defensive-minded team, but his dynamic shooting certainly outweighed those issues as the year progressed. His efforts in the Heat series will commonly be mentioned when fans bring up the title run years down the road, and although his time with the Bucks was short, Forbes will never be forgotten in the city.
Updated BTBP Grade: A
Forbes returned to San Antonio this offseason and it will be a welcoming sight to see him receive his championship ring when he comes to town next season.
