Free agents the Milwaukee Bucks rightfully did not pursue – Derrick Rose
Before the Bucks reunited with George Hill, they knew they would be in the market for a backup point guard who came with more consistency than D.J. Augustin or Jeff Teague offered. One name that popped up in the conversation among fans was Derrick Rose, the former league MVP who has turned into a sixth man over the past few years.
Ultimately, the Bucks picked Hill, which seems to be the right decision. First and foremost, not only is Hill already familiar with the system that Mike Budenholzer uses and the core of this roster, but he is also a better player in the playoffs.
According to basketball reference, Hill sports higher career offensive win shares, defensive win shares, 3-point percentage, and a lower turnover percentage, cumulating in a value over the replacement player of 3.5, Rose’s value over replacement player sits at 2.5, with a usage rate over 14 percent higher than Hill’s. Talk about doing more with less. Bucks fans should also remember the bubble playoffs when Hill was making nearly 50 percent of his 3-point shots and was the best shooter on the Bucks in that postseason.
Hill was the better option to take over as Milwaukee’s backup point guard next season, and we are all excited to have him back.
