The verdict on the Milwaukee Bucks’ signing of Johnny O’Bryant

For a team looking to add some size, O’Bryant would be a low-risk option to give the Bucks some closure. As a third-string center behind Lopez and Portis, it is not like O’Bryant would be playing a key role for the Bucks on a nightly basis. Instead, he could hypothetically give them insurance at the position in case something unfortunate were to occur.

Surprisingly, O’Bryant is still 28-years-old. It feels like he should be much older since he has been out of the league for so long, but he did come to the Bucks as a young 21-year-old. After his first stint with the team did not go as planned back in the day, perhaps playing overseas was just what the big man needed to try and find his footing. Having played over there for the past several years, he could be better equipped to succeed this time around.

If the Bucks are looking for a 15th man to fill out their roster, there might be better options out there if they are looking for a big man, but O’Bryant is not the worst option. It would be a great story, but the Bucks are not looking to make stories, they are looking to repeat as the world champions. Does O’Bryant help them in that regard? As previously alluded to, he would not come in and save the day, but he could be a solid option to round out the roster. Of course, it all depends on how O’Bryant performs at camp, and there should be more word on that front as time progresses.
