Milwaukee Bucks Rumors: Jalen Lecque attended workout for Bucks
By Dalton Sell
The Milwaukee Bucks have shifted around their roster in the weeks leading up to tomorrow’s preseason opener, and they might not be done just yet.
First reported by SNY’s Ian Begley, free agent guard Jalen Lecque recently attended a workout with the defending champs. It is unknown if this was the same workout that the team had where they brought in names such as Allonzo Trier, Antonio Blakeney, Chris McCullough, and Josh Gray, but it seems like a likely bet. The Bucks have not been shy about bringing in new pieces recently, with the team having brought back former players in Johnny O’Bryant and Elijah Bryant for camp, and it seems like Lecque might be under consideration for a spot as well.
The guard has not seen much of an opportunity throughout his first two NBA seasons, playing in just nine games over his first two seasons with the Phoenix Suns and Indiana Pacers. In that span, he has averaged 1.7 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.4 assists in 4.9 minutes per contest, not exactly the most star-studded numbers. Still, at 21-years-old, Lecque is still a young player in this league, and perhaps the Bucks saw something in him that they liked that called for a workout.
Where would Jalen Lecque fit with the Milwaukee Bucks if he were to be signed?
The Bucks have a solid point guard tandem in Jrue Holiday and George Hill, but the depth behind them is something the team has looked at improving all offseason. They brought in the guard duo of Tremont Waters and Justin Robinson recently, with Waters being on a camp deal and Robinson being signed to a two-way. Lecque could be thrown into that potential competition as the team looks to bolster their point guard rotation ahead of the new season. Lecque is more of a combo guard rather than a traditional floor general, but the point stands in this regard.
Lecque’s NBA stats do not exactly jump off the page enough to give the Bucks some closure with their third-string point guard. However, in 47 G-League games over the past two seasons with the Northern Arizona Suns and Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the guard put up some eye-catching stats. The youngster averaged 13.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 27.7 minutes per game, having shown signs of solid scoring with a clear-cut role. However, the facilitating was nothing to rave about as he averaged a tick under three and a half assists per contest. There are some positives with Lecque, but there are also some questions.
Ultimately, the Bucks have been making moves consistently over the past several weeks, and only time will tell if Lecque is in their future plans. With Robinson and Waters already on the roster to compete at the point guard position, it seems far-fetched to believe they would bring in another inexperienced player to heighten the stakes further. If the team is determined to add a guard, they should take a closer look at Allonzo Trier, who attended the aforementioned group workout just a few weeks ago.
Keep an eye on the Bucks and Lecque with the preseason set to kick off tomorrow.
