Milwaukee Bucks: Keep an eye on Georgios Kalaitzakis in 2021 preseason
Milwaukee’s other pick in the 2021 NBA Draft was Georgios Kalaitzakis, who went with the 60th and final pick that night. Very little was known about him at the time, but the newcomer has been an interesting player since coming aboard. Kalaitzakis showed potential in the Summer League by passing, scoring, and playing some solid defense. Fans got another look at him in the scrimmage, where he notably threw a highlight pass off the glass to Thanasis Antetokounmpo for a slam.
Much like fellow rookie Mamukelashvili, Kalaitzakis is likely not going to play a massive role for the Bucks this coming season. Most of his time will likely be with the Wisconsin Herd, their G-League affiliate, where he will get a chance to develop. However, he should get some meaningful burn in this stretch of preseason games for the Bucks regardless, and it will be interesting to see if he can take advantage of the opportunity.
Kalaitzakis looks like a player that can be a do-it-all type of piece. Standing at 6-foot-8, he has the versatility to play multiple positions, which this team loves. Due to that height, it was captivating to watch him play some point guard briefly during the Summer League, as he has a nice handle on the basketball. His offense is far from a finished product right now, and if he can fix his 3-point shot, he could develop into something special. While he is not an outstanding defender, that height will allow him to defend several positions, which could come in handy down the line.
It will be fascinating to watch him in the preseason if he gets some legitimate minutes.
