3 things the GMs got right about the Milwaukee Bucks in their 2021-22 survey: They sure love Giannis Antetokounmpo (as they should)

It should come as no surprise that the GMs all continue to show love and respect to the reigning Finals MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo. He appeared numerous times throughout the survey, with GMs heaping praise onto the 26-year-old superstar.

I’m not sure where to begin, but let’s start with him being second on the list of players who you’d start a franchise with at 40 percent of the vote. He trailed only the Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic, who had 43 percent of the vote. I have no problem with Doncic being ahead, but how can you pick anyone other than those two to start a franchise with? A combined 83 percent is too low for Doncic and Antetokounmpo, in my opinion.

Antetokounmpo was also voted as the best overall defensive player with a whopping 47 percent of the vote, well ahead of the Utah Jazz’s Rudy Gobert who finished second with 17 percent. It’s a continuation from last year where he received 46 percent of the vote, but still a huge jump from 2019-20 when he only received seven percent. It shouldn’t surprise Bucks fans (or anyone for that matter) that Antetokounmpo is regarded as the best defensive player after the monstrous playoff run he had. He was also voted as the most versatile defender with 40 percent of the vote, showing that he really can do it all at that end.

Finally, Antetokounmpo continues to define the position-less era of basketball and it showed once again in the GM survey as he received votes for the best player at three different positions: small forward, power forward, and center. Antetokounmpo was voted as the best power forward with 63 percent of the vote, the third-best center with seven percent of the vote, and received votes for small forward. Antetokounmpo, Doncic, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant were the only players with votes at three positions. Antetokounmpo has played every position in his career, has done so at a high level, and clearly, the GMs agree.
